My Advice to You

Hey Guys :) I'm back again

First, a few updates!

Foremost, I want to say goodbye to a few people. Goodbye to the seniors in my sorority. Although I wasn't able to become as close with y'all as I would've liked, the ones I know are such special people. I wish you all the best of luck in the future!
Next, goodbye to South Campus! Although North Campusers and Granville residents bash on you all the time, you were an amazing place to live my freshmen year. I honestly think (and I know tons will agree with me) that South is one of the prettiest parts of campus. I'll miss the scenery, the long walks from ADPi, the sweaty rushes to class--seeing as that South is at least 10 minutes from your closest class, running to Public Safety because you know the p2p will be full at Ehaus, chanting "Tar---Heels" with everyone leaving the Dean Dome after we win, and the beautiful sunsets from my Hojo balcony. I'll always have fond memories of living on "The Dark Side of Campus," which all true South Campusers know is the best side.
Lastly, goodbye to Kendall, John, Tyler, and Harrison! Many hope for a chance to talk to our basketball players, seeing as that they're gods at our school, and I was lucky enough to become friends with some of these boys. Kendall, we are extremely incompatible as friends, but you truly are a good guy and your fans love you and your humble qualities. I know you're going to be a great basketball player in the NBA. Good luck to John, and Harrison, I'm sorry I made such a bad first impression!! You both will go so far in the league. And to Z, you were everyones favorite this year and we'll definitely miss you on the court next year. All UNC students have a connection with them because we're a huge family, and I know it's hitting everyone hard that we won't have them next year. Thanks for representing our school so well!

Next, I'm going through Finals Week -- aka Hell Week -- right now so keep me in your thoughts!

Okay moving forward: as my freshmen year is coming to a close, I have been sitting around thinking about all my high school friends that will soon be moving in and attending their first year of college. I've been thinking of all these good tips and pieces of advice that I wish people would've told me! These are just my opinions, but maybe it'll help some of you!

Enjoy:

Birthday Wish List

HEYYYYYYY Y'ALLLLLLLL!

I KNOW, I know, I have been gone for almost a month. I promise I have good reason.

My past month has been filled with hell, tears, fun, crazy nights, all nighters, mean boys, and exams. Let's just say, I've been super busy trying to keep my head on straight. I wish I could update y'all on everything that has happened lately, but there is just too much to fit in one blog post.

Foremost, I just want to say I am still in mourning that Carolina lost in the Elite 8, and our dreams of the title this year were lost (and most likely next year with almost all of our strong players going pro), but I still love my Tar Heels and I'm proud of them. They fought as hard as they could.

Next, I'm excited because there is less than a month before my summer begins. My last exam is May 4th and I'm literally counting down the seconds until I don't have to see another supply and demand curve. I've had so many exams lately and I have been a walking zombie for the past two weeks. Note to self: stop pulling all nighters--they harm you more than help you.

Lastly, besides summer, I have a few more things to look forward to in the next couple weeks. Next weekend, my sister is a special guest at the Azalea Festival in Wilmington, so my family and I will be there to stay with her and enjoy the beautiful weather and beach. Also, ya girl's birthday is May 27th :) I love birthdays so much. I usually get more excited for my friends' birthdays, but I get pretty excited for mine too. That said, this post is dedicated to things catching my eye at the moment, which I guess because of timing, could also be seen as my birthday wish list. Let's get started:

Bathing Suit:

Okay, okay, technically this shouldn't be on my list, seeing as that I just got two new bathing suits from Victoria's Secret, but DANG IT, I am a sucker for a fringe/color block bikini :(

Sunglasses:

Be still my beating heart. These sunglasses are my true love. I'm being dead serious. May I present to you the House of Harlow Jordana Sunglasses (in Baby's Breath). I would do many a things to have these babies in my possession.

Chain Necklace:

I need one. That is all. Nah but for real, they go with everything. I love chunky jewelry tooooooo.

Lace Shorts:

SO ADORABLE. I've wanted a pair for a really long time. Why are they so southern and fashionable at the same time? It's torture.

Neon Bangles:

I <3 color. And I need more bracelets in my collection to be honest. I think dees are sooooo cute.

Denim Vest:

Half because Rihanna's "We Found Love" video makes me want denim everything/Half because I saw this girl on campus wear a denim vest and floral dress last week that made me want to die

NEW PURSE:

Let me tell y'all a sad story. I haven't bought a purse for myself in over 3 years. The End. I know, it's a tear jerker. But real talk, I need a new purse. I miss the smell of new leather. I miss the surprise of what the fabric looks like on the inside. I'm pathetic.

Tail Skirt/Sheer Maxi:

There are people who love these skirts, and people who hate them. I happen to be a lover. These would be so nice for summer.

Nude Ankle Straps:

I think these are adorable and go with everything. And since homegirl's legs are a little short and stubby, the nude will make them look at least a little longer, compared to flats of other colors.

Zig Zag Ring:

These are adorable and perfect while it's still springtime! I love the colors and how different they look.

Highlights:

I recently went from my natural color, back to blonde highlights. However, the highlights will take awhile to build and right now I'm not happy with the color of my hair. I want Jennifer Aniston-so-perfectly-blonde-and-highlighted-it-looks-like-she-lives-in-the-sun highlights.

New Piercing:

I've met so many people with such cool piercings at college, and it's been almost 4 years since my last piercing. I want a new one somewhere on my ear.

Weekend with my Family:

Don't get me wrong, all these materialistic items would be AMAZING, and make me SUPER happy, but the best gift I could receive would be spending the weekend with my whole family (come home Sissy and Scott). Ideally, we would spend them on those beautiful North Carolina beaches that I miss so much, but quite frankly, being anywhere with them would make me happy.

So I hope y'all enjoyed that. Maybe your birthday is coming up and this gave you some ideas for a wish list, or maybe you're a shopaholic like my best friend Ann and you'll just decide you like some of these items so much you'll go and buy them right now. Kidding Ann, love you.

I've missed you guys and all your sweet feedback! I'll be posting again soon. I wanna do a blog about all the advice I have for high schoolers transitioning into college, cause I sure as heck have a lot of pointers.

Love,
-Alexa Dorian

Spring Green Eye (Perfect for Brown Eyes)

Read below on how to get this look:

Grab some brushes and the 5 following products (or anything similar to them):

#1
Nyx Jumbo Pencil in "Milk"

#2
Bare Minerals Eye Shadow in "Mint"
Mint is the bottom right eyeshadow

#3 & #4
Stila's Eye for Color Palette
(the dark and light green in the palette)

#5
A Shimmery Green Eyeshadow
(I don't have a picture for this color because I have a random sample color with no name or brand)

Steps:
1) Lightly place the Milk Jumbo Pencil from your lash line to crease. Blend out--don't apply too much!!! Also concentrate a lot in your inner tear duct. This cream will help the green colors stick--they will also be truer in color.

2) Apply the Mint eyeshadow to the inner corner and 1/3 along your lower lash line.

3) Apply the light green from the Stila palette along your crease. This will add more dimension to the look and serve as a buffer color from the shimmering green to the bare skin of your brow bone.
***Additional note: we aren't applying anything to the actual brow bone because the other colors are shimmery and bright. A shimmery brow would overpower the look***

4) Apply the shimmery green all along your lid beneath your crease. Blend in to the light green we just applied. Also apply along the middle 1/3 of your lower lash line.

5) Take a tapered crease brush, and apply the dark green from the Stila palette to your outer crease. Blend into the shimmery green and apply a little to the outer 1/3 of your lower lash line.

6) Apply brown eyeliner to the top and bottom lash line. Go for brown as opposed to black because black would be too harsh for the look since we're using light greens.

7) Curl lashes and apply mascara

Hope you guys enjoyed and this was helpful :)

More Important Than Make Up

Hey guys,

So I've created this blog post in hopes that it will reach at least as many people that read my blog.

In this day and age, people feel so minute and insignificant compared to the rest of the world. I'm hoping this message will reach others and prove I am significant.

Although many would look at my sister as someone who went on the Bachelor simply for fame and glory, I know that she is one of the most intelligent and compassionate people I've ever met. I know that with all the connections and the name she's made for herself by being on the Bachelor, she volunteers with as many organizations as she can. She doesn't put her fame to waste.

She inspires me everyday and so does my mother. My mom will help anyone and everyone without ever thinking of herself. She's always instilled in me that being selfless and true to yourself are two of the best attributes a person can have. As a result, I grew up asking Santa to give toys to those who needed them more than me before he visited my house, and it's heart wrenching to ignore those with signs on the side of the street. I'm not trying to come off as self-righteous. I'm simply admiring the values that my mother engraved in my life.

More importantly, I've never grown up with a lot of money. I am grateful for everything I have in my life because I know I've come from so little. My mom and I have had tons of talks about what we would do if we won $1,000,000. Most of the time we decide that first we would pay off any debt we had. But we never fail to admit we would feel guilty by not donating a large chunk to charity. We were happy without the additional money. Why keep it to ourselves when it could aid others who may be down on their luck way worse than us? I've always hoped I would win the lottery or somehow strike gold, because I truly believe helping others is a direct path to happiness in life. If I had the money, I would donate as much as I could. In college, when I have the time, I will donate my time (which is just as valuable) as much as possible.

Now onto the main message of this blog post. Please watch the video below. Although it is long, I ensure you that every second is important and powerful. Shout out to Sasha for bringing this to my attention. I know I'm just one girl from North Carolina, but with this blog and my sister's fame, I hope I will somehow have an affect in this amazing organization. The man who made this video is inspirational, and I hope I can come as close to changing the world one day as he has.

Something that struck me from this video, was when Jason Russell said "he didn't choose where, or when he was born." My mom has always forced me to realize that being born in the United States, I was born into freedom and a land of opportunity. Like the majority of people in the US, I don't have to fear about when I'll have my next meal or where I'll sleep tonight. I also don't have to fear about being abducted and forced into a child army.

I hope this message impacted you as much as it impacted me. There are more important things in life than buying that new pair of shoes or going to that concert next month.

I've already bought my bracelet, buttons, shirts, etc. I hope you all will do the same and share this to as many people as possible!

Thank you so much if you took the time to read this entire message.

Be selfless,
Alexa Dorian

Happy Valentine's Day

Hey thereeee,

I hope you are all enjoying your Valentine's Day, whether you're with your sweetheart, amazing friends & family, or treating yourself.

I find it sad when people are so pessimistic about this day--aka Happy Singles Awareness--nuh uh girl, Valentine's Day is about all the love in your life and not about whether you have a boyfriend/husband/secret admirer or not.

I've been on both ends of the spectrum. I had an amazing Valentine's Day last year with flowers, the big dinner, the special boy in my life--the whole shebang. But having my mom call me this morning and wish me a Happy Valentine's Day, having lunch and study sessions with my best friends, and seeing all the girls on campus with their boyfriends gives me just as much happiness. Not gonna lie though, giving your girlfriend her gift in public takes a lot of balls--all of us are judging you.

Basically, I wanted to make a post to cheer up any of you girls (or boys) that are down today, and realize how much have to be happy about. And if you're away from your loved one today, as I have been in the past, this quote puts me at ease: "Distance never separates two hearts that really care, for our memories span the miles and in seconds we are there. But whenever I start feeling sad, because I miss you, I remind myself how lucky I am to have someone so special to miss." And don't forget, there's always Skype!

Anyways, if those words of encouragement didn't brighten your mood, here are some things which always make me cry tears of happiness, or cheer me up through laughter! Either way :) eat some candy, watch a good movie, and be with the ones you love. Happy Vday y'all!

makes me cry every time!

one of the sweetest things ever--so much love for her daddy :(

Rah Rah Carolina-lina!!!

Hey y'all

So I decided to make this post to straighten out a few things. I'm a very opinionated person and one of the things I hate the most is when people misinterpret what I say or twist my words. So I thought I would explicitly write it out so that there is no confusion.

Last night was the Duke vs UNC game (I'm sure you know that though) and we lost by 1 point. 1 POINT!

In my opinion, the Duke-Carolina rivalry is the best rivalry in all of college basketball, if not all sports. I don't think this because I'm biased, I think this because it's fact.

Now first of all, I want you all to understand that I was born into Carolina basketball. For example, my dad wanted to name me Carol Ina Spivey. My nickname from my dad was Little Tarheel. My favorite number when I was little was 23 because of Michael Jordan. I hold onto this passion for Carolina basketball that my dad raised me to have because it allows me to still feel close to him and it's all I've ever known. I'm sorry if my passion offends you, but I'm sure there are things in life that you are just as passionate about, whether sports, or acting, or singing, or whatever.

Whether basketball is serious to you or not, you have to accept that to me and many others, it is serious, very serious. In fact, it isn't just serious, it's a lifestyle. It's just my freshmen year, so missing the first Duke game wasn't a big deal, but in the next 3 years, I would do RIDICULOUS things to get into that game. Before I graduate, if I have to camp out for 2 days and miss class to be front row risers, trust me, I will.

Here is where I wanted to address a few things. I NEVER have said that you cannot be a die hard fan for a college if you don't go to school there. There is no logic in that statement. Now as for your public opinions after a game, I feel they should be limited unless you go to either of the schools that are playing. Before I discuss that though, a month ago, many people, that neither attend NC State or Carolina, were trying to tell me that NC State is our rival. I'm sorry,  but you have no ground to think your opinion is the correct one. Yes, back in the day, State was our biggest rival, but that was more than 30 years ago, okay? We are talking present day, and as a student who reads the Daily Tar Heel every chance I get (containing the rest of UNC's student population's beliefs and opinions), interacts with other Carolina students on a daily basis, and brushes up on my stats as much as possible, I WILL NEVER agree that State is our rival.
Foremost, no one at Carolina sees State as a threat. If you want to be considered rivals, you have to be very close in stats and level of talent. No offense, State is a good school in many other ways, but they do not match us in basketball. So sorry to disappoint you people who think you know everything (even though your interactions with UNC are few to none), State is not our rival.
Being on campus and feeling the energy of almost every game, whether in the Dean Dome or on campus, I can assure you that students are no more excited for the State game than we are for any other school that isn't Duke. There is a reason why we only have a Beat Duke Week. There is a reason why our fight song ends with "Go to Hell Duke!!" The last game we had with State was hyped up because we all believed that had vandalized a sign on campus. They talked so much trash that the game was made in to a big deal. Of course we'll defend our school! But we never start drama with State unless they start it first: FACT. They are the ones that come on our campus and have their band play their fight song and tag our welcome signs. Based on their actions, we might be their rival, but like I've said, they aren't ours.
Furthermore, I am a fan of other schools, but I would never act like I knew anything pertaining to their athletics if the rest our their students were disagreeing with me. OBVIOUSLY, this would be a hint that my opinions were incorrect.

Lastly, I do sincerely apologize to all those who I may have freaked out on last night, I really do. But nonetheless, this is OUR BIGGEST RIVALRY. If you expect me to show no emotion, excitement, happiness, sadness, then you are (excuse me) an idiot. After we lost, yes I teared up, but I'm not ashamed. I pay tuition to go to this amazing school--that I worked my butt off through high school to attend. I interact with these basketball players on a daily basis--on the bus, at parties, or riding through campus. The history and legacy that is Carolina basketball often brings tears to my eyes. I work so hard in school, and spend countless hours studying and attempting to finish my homework early in the hopes that I can travel to Franklin Street or hang out on this beautiful campus with my friends. I have so many memories and tears attached to this university already. When there is a Carolina game on at night, homework finished or not, you drop everything you're doing to watch that game, and support your Roy's Boys. I never have, and never will, want to go anywhere else but Carolina. I have a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and passion invested in this school.
That being said, Duke has some of the best academics in the country, has a beautiful campus, and an amazing basketball team also whose stats differ from ours by single digits and often single points. THAT is why we are rivals. Seeing how much love I have for Carolina and our basketball team, I have every, and I mean EVERY right to react whatever I way I want when we lose. If Duke students are disrespectful, I will fight them to the death on arguments and witty comments and stats and obnoxious statements because rivals are allowed to do that.
However, and I think the majority of people agree with me, if you do not attend either Duke or Carolina, you CANNOT rub it in the losers faces OR attempt to win an argument OR be overly obnoxious about winning. You do not pay tuition to go there. You do not have your education and ultimately life invested in that school. The only tie you have with that school, is passion for it. I completely understand, and you can cheer or laugh or hate if you want, but do NOT overstep your boundaries and stomp around trying to embarrass either of our schools and act like you are a bigger fan than us, because we will all be making fun of you. This is mainly because most of the time, these people are attending colleges that are much less rigorous academic-wise, meaning they have no room to insult our school in general. Also, we hate each other so much because we are very similar, seeing as that we are both amazing schools. Winning that basketball game is usually one of the only things that gives us an advantage over each other. So yes, before the game, we run our mouths and talk trash, but after the game, we see how much both teams invested, and realize when too much is too much (well at least the majority of us--I can't speak for all of us). It's when ignorant people or bandwagon fans, or people that just find joy in confrontation keep rubbing the score in peoples faces and act like they have the grounds to do so. When we lost, all I could talk about was how in shock I was and how bad I felt for our team. It's when I read those ugly tweets and saw Twitter fights between people who don't even go to our schools that I had to intervene and argue. This was also my first Duke game as a Carolina student, and maybe I've learned next time I should just hold my tongue and ignore that people that think their opinions matter.
BASICALLY, this post was just written to explain why I don't think you can talk trash unless you have those emotional ties and utter pride involved with being a student at either of these schools. It's a different feeling seeing all your fellows Tarheels crying, seeing the disappointment in the eyes of seniors that didn't get to rush Franklin for the last time, and hearing the silence on the usually loud and hilarious ride back to South Campus via the p2p.
Disagree if you want, but I know my Tarheel family has my back on this one.

Nonetheless, I won't make excuses about the game last night, and I'm sorry for getting caught up in the moment last night, and saying things out of anger. I'm still so proud to be a Tarheel, I'm still proud of my amazing team, and I know this pride will drive us to come back and beat Duke during our next meeting. Also, props to Austin Rivers for knocking the breath out of every single UNC student as a freshmen, that really deserves praise.

But anyways, this was a venting/rant post and I hope it cleared a few things up.
There's only one last thing to say:

I'm a Tar Heel born, I'm a Tar Heel bred,
and when I die, I'm a Tar Heel dead,
So it's rah rah Carolina-lina, rah rah Carolina-lina,
rah rah Carolina-lina,
GO TO HELL DUKE!

Love This, Hate That

Well hello there,

I hope you guys have been doing amazing and have been enjoying this awesome new year! Sorry I have been so MIA

I'm back at Chapel Hill and have been loving my second semester of college :) It's not exactly the schoolwork and endless textbook readings I'm loving, but more the fun nights I've already been having.

Speaking of things I've been loving, I wanted to make this post to update y'all on things that I love and hate currently!

Lehhzzz go:

LOVINGGGG

1) NARS Orgasm Blush and Laguna Bronzer

These really are the perfect pair. Foremost, Orgasm is the perfect shade of pink for every skin tone, I promise. It somehow gives a blush on your skin that makes you look tanner--even without bronzer. It is so flattering, and has a glow that isn't too shimmery or sparkly. I absolutely love it--in the summer it's going to look amazing.
Laguna is everything I'd hoped it would be. It's not too dark that I can't wear it in the winter, and it's dark enough that it'll look perfect during summer.
Although these items are on the pricier side, they are completely worth it, and will last for a LONG time.

2) ADPi Hoodie

The greatest shirt/sweater/anything ADPi purchase I've made all year is this hoodie. It is literally almost glued to my body. I wear it any wear and everywhere. It is super comfy and keeps me warm when this bipolar North Carolina weather takes a turn for the worse. It's kind of gross how much I wear it but I could care less. It was worth every penny and it also reps ADPi--nothing better.

3) 8 ams

Haha okay hear me out. My 8 ams and early classes get me up early in the day, make me motivated for the day, and allow for my classes to be over early so that I have longer periods of free time at night to finish homework or relax. ANDDDDD I'm not gonna lie, it also gives me the possibility of getting Chick-Fil-A breakfast in the morning #fattyproblems

4) Weight Training

At Carolina we're required to take a lifetime fitness class and I was placed into weight training. I thought I would hate it, but I'm actually feeling results, have good friends in the class, and love my trainer. Maybe I'll effortlessly obtain a Spring Break body in the next 10 weeks--key word: maybe.

5) Instagram

I absolutely love Instagram. I didn't know what it was beforehand, but ever since I got my iPhone, I've been addicted. I was always posting mainly photos on Twitter, so I feel like Instagram was made for me. I love all the different filters and how the comments aren't restricted by a character count--like Twitter.

6) Banana Bread

I am obsessed with banana bread lately. I forced my mom to get some for me to take back to school. My mom makes the most amazing banana bread, so it's not as good as hers, but it at least reminds me of home. If you'd never tried banana bread, try it now.

7) Hunger Games

Nothing more needs to be said.

HATINGGGG

1) Guys being jerks

I absolutely hate when guys are pigs. The second that boys reveal their true motives in keeping a conversation going, I'm immediately ready to punch them in the face. Boys, making it clear that you think we are sluts makes us want to do anything but talk to you. Be chivalrous, it isn't dead I swear.

2) Photoready Concealer

I'm really disappointed with this product :( I usually love Photoready's products, but this concealer comes off flaky on my winter skin and exaggerates my dry patches and skin texture. I'm not sure whether the small amount of sparkles found within Photoready's products are to blame, or whether the formula just doesn't mesh well with dry winter skin. Either way, I wouldn't buy this again.

3) ..speaking of dry skin..

Am I the only one who's skin is a desert lately? My lips. The outer corners of my eyes. My nose. My legs. My cheeks. EVERYWHERE. No matter how much I exfoliate, no matter how much moisturizer I apply, and no matter how much water I drink, my skin continues to crack and flake. WINTER YOU SUCK. On the bright side, my sister posted a blog a little while back to help you get rid of dry skin. Check it out!

4) The Bachelor

Although I only originally started watching this show because of my sister, I truly liked her season and Ashley's season. However, I find the girls on Ben's season utterly unbearable and vicious. It's hard to watch them make fools of themselves. If it weren't for a few exceptions such as Kacie B. or Emily, I would've long ago turned the channel. Once they disappear, I'll probably no longer watch.

5) Pokey Sticks

Cue scary music ....

Don't get me wrong, Pokey Sticks are often the light of my life, the key to my heart, the sun in my life, and I could go on, but our relationship recently hit a big speed bump: I found out their nutritional value. Not only do 10 Pokey Sticks contain 1400 calories, 60 grams of fat, and 1830 mg of sodium, but my friends and I usually consume more than 10 Pokey Sticks on almost every occasion.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, Pokey Sticks and I HAVE NOT broken up ... we're just taking a little break. I'll come back to you soon baby, after I eat healthier, and have gone more than at least a week without having you almost every day.

6) My Roy's Boys

I know Roy, I know
Okay y'all. Let's just get it out in the open. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED AT FSU?!?!?!??! Did they roofie our players? Were they wearing invisible blindfolds. Did Dulkys have extreme blackmail on them? Did Blue Steel survive those last 14 seconds? SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS. The biggest question of all is: are we still gonna get that National Championship? I came into this season without a DOUBT that we were gonna win. Now I'm not so sure.
All joking aside, I know my boys are great players, and one game doesn't define their season. But they seriously need to work on defense, free throws (*cough*Henson*cough*), and 3 pointers if we're gonna stay in the game and ultimately win.
Don't let me down boys! Even if we lose, go out fighting hard. Then I'll at least be proud to be bleeding Carolina blue.

So anyways, those are some things I've been interested with lately!

I've also been exercising more, trying to get a better night's sleep, and have joined my sorority's Greek Groove team. If you don't know what Greek Groove is, look up "UNC Greek Groove" on YouTube.

Like I said earlier, I'm sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I've been getting used to classes, and I was actually extremely under the weather for about a week, so I was trying to get better.

2012 has been AMAZING for me so far, and I hope it continues :)

I'm hoping to make a new video log soon, and in it I'd love to answer any questions y'all have, ABOUT ANYTHING: make up, college, ADPi, my sister, myself, Chapel Hill, the South, Pokey Sticks, exercising, etc. You can leave them in a comment under this post, or direct message/tweet at me. My twitter name is @AlexaSpivey. I hope I'll receive tons of questions from y'all!

I'll post again soon! So until then..

-Love you,
Alexa Dorian
